How to Create a Business Ideas That’s Aligned With Your Values

Values are defined as basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate attitudes or actions - ultimately values help us determine what is important to us. When you are thinking of a business idea, it’s important to ensure you consider one that will make you money but also one that’s aligned with your values and sparks your passion. Read on to discover some tips to help you create a business idea that’s aligned with your values.

#1 What do you love? (your passion)

What is your passion? What makes your heart beat fast? What could you do all day, every day, even if you weren’t getting paid to do it? Examples: Reading, dancing, travelling, learning, photography, cooking, sports & exercise… maybe you go down a Pinterest rabbit hole in a few particular themes (I know I do!).

#2 What are you good at? (your talents)

Make a list all your skills, whether you are qualified or not. What degrees do you have? Have you ever completed any online courses or workshops? List your hobbies, work experience or volunteer jobs you’ve been a part of. Examples: Writing, making videos, creating powerpoint presentations, social media, teaching, speaking, listening, designing, yoga, sewing…

#3 What can you get paid to do? (your profession)

What kind of services or products do people pay for? Examples: consulting, writing, selling, photography, coaching, teaching, ebooks, courses, freelancing, social media, marketing, mentorship…

#4 What does the world need? (your mission)

Reflect on issues that you believe the world or your community is facing. How can you help people get results or transform in some way?

Ask the 3 following questions to people who know you very well (friends, family):

1. What are my strengths? What can you count on me for? (3-4 strengths)
2. What are my weaknesses? What can you not count on me for? (3-4 weaknesses)
3. What is my unique ability? What am I the best at?

Now the important next step is to narrow down the answers you’ve jotted down and to spend a good chunk of time reflecting. You may have just planted the first seed of your brand new business. Exciting! If not, keep brainstorming and don’t be afraid to be inspired by the world around you.

The biggest business tip I can give you is to find solutions to be people’s problems in a niche that you’re interested in, where you can serve and most importantly, make money. Don’t be afraid to niche down - sometimes the most obvious business idea is right in front of you!
